Katpadi Parish

The Parish or Katpadi situated about five miles from the Town of Vellore is a developing community The Prisoners numbering about 169 families with 1071 Christian at the end of May 1977, include Katpadi proper, Katpadi Township, knows a Gandhi Nagar, and Sevur Village They are mostly immigrants and are middle class people employed in offices, factories, aid institutions. In Savur we have thirteen families of Catholics who are poor Inbonrers. The Church named Blessed Sacrament Shrine was built and dedicated as a renew eonce of the Diocesan Eucharistic Gongress held in 1966. The building was started when Fr. Y. L. Abraham was the Parish Priest. It was completed whea Fr. C. P. Joseph, K.D.. was the Parish Priest. The plan was drawn by Fr. Maggioni and executed by Fr. Arokiasamy and financed by Ft. Pajetta, the then procurator of the Diocesa. It was erected as Parish on Jaly 15 1954 The newly built Church was blessed on 8th Dec. 1967, and as consecrated on 21-3-1969 by the Most Rev. Joseph Captio, the Pro-Nuatio to India. The Parish has no school of its own but there are several Institutions to take care af the education of children, Salesian Sisters are running Auxilium schools and College for the education of girls. Don Bosco High School and St. Joseph’s Home take care of the education of boys. St. Joseph of Cluny Sisters are looking after the aged and sick. Besides these, there is daily Oratory (Youth Centre) attached to Don Bosco Institution Sunday Oratories for girls in Auxilium and Parish, are looked after by the Salesian Sisters. Boys from St. Joseph’s Home go to different Villages to conduct Oratories on Sundays.
