Vandavasi Parish

This Mission was started by French Missionaries, Fr, Mignery, who wan the Parish Priest of the then Nelliankulam Pariah, opened this mission in 1895. In 1900 this was made a Pariah, with many sub-stations, some of which are big Parishes now, namely, Nelliankulam, Teresapuram, Japthikarani, Tiruvettipuram and Parasut Many are the priests who toiled in this mission. The gradual development of this mission is due to the hard work of the Priests who laboured here. The Catholic population of this Parish is 2,215. They are scattered around in Vandavasi and its 35 sub-stations. The construction of the present Parish Church was started by Fr, SchooL D.. and completed by Fr. K. M. Sebastian in 1964, Four Chapels were built in the sub-stations by the present Parish Priest, V. Rev. Fr. John Valarkont who is also the Vicar Forane Social service in the Parish is done in the form of sinking or deepening wells. With the generous help of the bishop. Milk cows and goats are given to poor people, and a good number of people have benefited by this scheme, A girls High School, a Tailoring School and an orphanage are run by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, Middle School, 2 Elementary Schools, and a Nursery School are under the Parish.
