Thiruvettipuram Parish (Cheyyar)
The Catholic Mission in Tiruvtttiparam town was started by Rev. Fr. C. Mignery or the Paris Foreign Mission Society in the year 1899. 1 be headquarters of the Mission was in Vandavasi, From Timuvettiputum, the Faith spread to the neighbouring villages of Parasur, Sirungattar and Moranam Mission stations were opened in these villages. Where many embraced Christianity. Frs. Mignery, S. Paul, P. A. Penatio. 1.0.0, Jacob Puthet, Venadt and Peter Maggioni..., were the Parish Priests who continued the work of the Mission with their headquarters at Vandavasi, till the year. 1945. In 1945, For. Ardusso, S.D.B., was appointed as the first Parish Priest with headquarters and residence in Tiruvettipuram, and the present Church was completed and blessed in that year The Primary school building was also built by Fr Ardusso. Later, the Primary school was raised to Middle school in 1964, In 1950, Fr. Henry R Emery, was appointed Parish Priest and he established a convent und an orphanage. He was Succeeded by Frs. Thomas Kaipally, D. Maria Joseph (St), K. O. Abraham, K. M. Seharian, V. F. Xavier and Joseph Kottarathil. The last named is the present Paris Priest, who is serving from 1972. The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph work in the school and run the orphanage. There are 750 pupils in the school. St Joseph’s Nursery School was started in 1972. The Church was renovated in 1974. One year, on 3rd December, the new Convent building was blessed by the Bishop of Vellore New Chapels at Sagayapuram, Moranam and Perungattur were blessed by the Bishop of Vellore in 1975, 1976 and 1977 respectively. There are 765 Catholics in the Parish, which has 33 sub-stations.
