Parasur Parish
Till 1952, Parasur was part of Tiruvetripuram Parish. The catechist, Mr. Kanickam, was looking after the Chapel and the Church lands the separation of Parasur from Tiruvettipuram and its formation as a separate parish was thought of and planned by Fr. Kemery. In 1950, Mr. Arokiasamy was appointed to work as the Catechist at Parasur. In 1952, His Grace Louis Mathias, S.D.B., Archbishop of Madras Mylapore, established the Parish of Parasur and appointed Fr. S. P. Antony as its first Parish Priest. After one year, Fr. M. O, Angustine took over as the Parish Priest, but he was also transferred after a year; and from 1954 to 1960, Parasur did not have a separate Pariah Priest, but was left under the charge of the Parish Priest of Tiruvettipuram. Fr. A. Thomas took charge as the Parish Priest of Parasur in 1960, He built a Chapel at Irangal in 1961 and expanded the Purasur Church in 1963. He also bought land at Malikaputtu for the purpose of building a Chapel there, Fr. P.J. Thames became the Parish Priest in 1969. He built the Grotto of St Antony, a reading room and a dispensary. Fr. Urban took over as Parish Priest in 1973. Constructed at Malikaputtu. Under his guidance, a Chapel was from December, 1976, onwards, Parasur Parish has been continuously under the charge of Fr K. K. Joseph, the Parish Priest of Tiruvettipuram but for a brief spell of about a month, when Fr. Lawrence worked as the Parish Priest of Parasur. Parasur Parish has 12 sub-stations and a Catholic population of 250.
