Perumanam Parish

A good many inhabitants of Perumanam became Christians about a hundred years ago, they were converted by some French Fathers from Pondicherry Archdiocese. Perumanam belanged to Pondicherry Archdiocese and it was a part of Attipakkum Parish. During the last years of its existence in Pondicherry Archdioces, Rev. Fri Gandhi, Emmanuel Martin and Mahe from Altipakkam Parish, were looking after this village of Perumanam. Fr. Mahe built the Parish Church, dedicated to Christ the King, around the year 1950, He built the Parish school and a Chapel at Panaiyur and also a small prayer hall at tbc Perumanam Chetty Christian village, In 1970. Perumanam became a part of Allikondapattu Parish of Vellore Diocese and Fr. S. Volanganny was taking care of this area. Perumanam was made a Parish on Ist January, 1974, with Pastor and Kallery as its substations. Rev. Fr. A. Maria Michael was made its first Parish Priest He built a Presbytery there, On 15th June, 1976. Fr. Joseph P. Cheruvil was appointed as the second tch Price of Perumanam Parish. He built a drama stage and a Grotto in honour of PAndy of Lourdes, at Perumanam and a Chapel, dedicated to St. Anthony, art Gallery. The total Catholic Population of Perumanam Parish is almost 2,000.
