Pathiavaram Parish

Between the years 1878 and 1881, while Fr. J, F. Darras was the Parish Priest of Chethupattu, he used to visit Pallacherry and its neighbouring villages with the intention of preaching the Gospel of Our Divine Saviour to the Hindus and to convert them to Christianity, if they so desired, The grace of God and Ibe zeal of Ft. Dorras bore fruity giving many conversions in the village of Pallacherry. After Fr Darras, who is called be Apostle of North Arcot District. Rev. Fr. Millard continued the work of evangelization from the year 1881 to 1900. It was Ft. Millard who became the first Parish Priest of Pathiuvaram after making the Christians in the village of Pallachetry settle down at Pathiavaram. From 1900 to 1919, Frs. Nuguet, Rocher, Atul, Noel and S. Paul either became the Paris Priest of Pathavaram or were looking after this Parish from the neigh louring Paris Their love of God the conversion of souls increased the number of Christians at Pathiavaram and nearby villages. From 1919 to 1931, Fr. Chaler was the Parish Priest and it is he who built the present Church. After Fr. Chaler, Fr. Albertini was the Parish Priest for 6 years. Then Fr David, S.D.B, who later became the Bishop of Vellore, looked after this Parish from Chcthupatiu, Some of the villages under this Parish at that time were Mudayoor, Devikapuram, Murugamangalam Thumboor. Vecrasamhanoor, Narasingapuram, Tirumalal. Pulavambady and Sennanandal. Frs. Anthonidas, V. F. Xavier, Thomas Kaipally and Thomas George were its Parish Priests between the years 1943 and 1960, Later Fr. V. C. Joseph became its Parish Priest, In 1943, the Franciscan Sister of St, Joseph started a Convent here with 4 sisters for helping the poor people of this Parish spiritually and intellectually When the Parish of Thachambadi was newly formed in 1950, the villages of Mundayoor, Murugamangalam and Devikapuram were transferred to the new Parish and thus Pathiavaram Parish became smaller in size. It became still smaller whes, in 1964, Tirumalai, sub-station of Pathavaram Parish, became a new Parish. The present spacious and beautiful Church at Pathiavaram was put up by Fr. V C. Joseph and the same was blessed on 1-3-1972 by the Hinbop. On 15tb September the same year, the brothers of Sacred Heart of Jesus opened a House at Pathiyavaram. They are running a High School, an Orphanage & a Boys Town and undertake other social development projects. At present Fr. P.J. Thomas is the Parish Priest of Pathiavaram, which has 5 sub stations and 2.700 Catholics. There are 3 schools situated at Pathiavaram, Narasingapuram and Senoanandal.
