Kolappalur Parish

The Origins of Christianity in this Parish go back to the year 1880 A. D. Like the tiny mustard seed of the Bible the seed sown by Fr. Darras, the Apostle of North Arcot, has grown to high tree Indeed. Today, the Parish covers 12 villages is an area of 25 sg. Miles The Catholics number around 2500. The growth and the development of the Parish is the result of the hard and incessant work of the Paris Foreign Missionary Fathers in the persons of Frs. Darras, Colas, and Gaston. In the Year 1912 Kolappalur was established as a separate Parish and Fr. Ignatius was installed as the First Parish Priest. After Fr. Ignatius, Fr. Gaston looked after this Parish and afrer him Fr. S. Paul became the Parish Priest. It is this zealous Missionary who in 1920 built the present heautiful Parish Church. The beginnings of the R. C. M. Primary School also are said to be of his period. After Fr. S. Paul, for want of Priests, Kolappalur was not able to function as a Separate Parish and was affiliated to ChiethuPaltu Parish. The Parish Priests of Chathupattu. Fr. Paul Arockiam and after him the Salesian Fr. Carletto looked after the needs of Kolappalar Parish. Due to the efforts of Fr. S. David, S.D.B., the then Parish Priest and later the Second Bishop of Vellore, Kolappalur stood on its own legs and in 1947 the year of Indian Independence, Fr. A. Thomas was installed as Parish Priest of Kolappalur. After him Kolappalur had a rate privilege of being served by eminent and zealous Parish Priests in the person of Frs. Rajappa. Gnana prakasam. John Antheenat, A. T. Thomas V. P. Antonisamy and Fr. Gabriel Mathias, the present Parish Priest. Of course, we cannot forget the service rendered by Fr. Jose Lawrence, K. P. Kurian, K. K. Joseph, M. Royappa and Urban Thekels Assistant thanks to God’s Grace, and thanks to our dear benefactors abroad sod in India. Kolappalur Parish can boast of many graduates, each of the sub-stations are adorned with beautiful and solid Chapel Kolappalur itself progressing on religious-socio-economic spheres. The two praesidia of Legics of Mary and the sodality give a helping hand in the religious uplift of this Parish. The Social Service Committee and the Dairy Society under the lead of the present Parish Priest come to the financial help of the down trodden Christian May Ged continue to shower His blessings on this parish.
