Ranipet Parish
Ranipet Parish now comprises the town of Ranipet and Arcot with the surrouoding areas within radius of 15 miles. The origin of Ranipet Mission can be traced back to about 200 years. There are records to show that the British Government gave lands in Arcot to build Church and Cemetery for the Christians. In Ranipet, the existing Church was built in 1855. There was no resident Priest at Ranipet and it was looked after from Arkonam In 1929, the late Mother Gerard, of revered memory, of the Society of St. Charles, Belgium, founded the Little Flower Convent at Ranipet, their first foundation in India. From then on, a resident Priest was given to Ranipet. Ta 1930, Fr. Ladislaus, SDB, took charge of Ranipet Mission. In 1947, His Grace the Most Rev. Louis Mathias formally erected Ranipet as a Parish. At present, there are about 1,350 Catholics spread over the town of Ranipet and Arcot and the villages of Karai, Avarakarai, Muppanthotti, Visharsin, Ailam, Essayanoor, Kondaikuppam etc. Fr. V. E.
